Between my FH and I we have three different backgrounds. Mine are English (Dad) and Dutch (mum). Ryans are English (Mum) and Aussie (Dad).
I would like to know if there are any specific wedding traditions for any of these that we can incorporate as a special tribute to our heritage. This is particularily important in my sides as my grandparents wont be around for much longer.

do you have any family crests? I am having my dad’s family crest as a pin on my bouquet. My grandmother on my mum’s side was a sewer so i am putting her thimble on it too (i’m having a button bouquet)
How about poems? We are having “oh the places you’ll go” by Dr Suess.. as you may have gathered we’re not having the most traditional of weddings – at the end it makes mention of multiple surnames, and we’re altering them to include the surnmes of our families!

I know that lillies of the valley are traditional in dutch weddings….i just don’t remember how. Perhaps you could incorporate lilly of the valley into your decorations/bouquets etc….and as far as english traditions are concerned the biggest english tradition there is is the white wedding dress. The tradition was started by queen Victoria as recently as the mid 1800’s who felt that wearing white to a wedding symbolised purity…..so you can’t get more british than wearing white! :)

Thanks ladies. I did some research into the flowers and according to worldweddingtraditions.com. they were planted around the newlyweds house to symbolise the ‘return of happiness’ so that the couple could celebrate their love with each blooming season. I love the idea of bringing them into the decorations. I am going to have tulips as my bouquet so i might include sime LOTV as well. And of course i will be wearing a white dress – just doesnt seem natural not to. :)

Traditionally, the bride's usually spend about $3000 on their wedding dresses. And that doesn't include all the accessories.
