Abbie & Chris
Chris and I met through a mutual friend almost 5 years ago, from the moment we met we knew it was fate, we had discussed Marriage numerous times and even looked at rings. the weekend when chris proposed to me he had gone over and beyond what I ever expected my marraige proposal to be.
Chris had contacted my boss to ensure that I worked an early shift on the Friday morning so that he could take me away for the weekend, so when my boss approached me asking me to work as early as possible and made up some really lame reasons I thought nothing of it.
Whilst at work that day Chris had taken an RDO and his preparation had begun. When I walked through the door at 3:30pm he said "you have 15 minutes to shower and pack your bags we are going away" ofcourse I am not a girl that likes surprises and went into panic mode....I grabbed the biggest suitcase I could and cramed as much into it....mind you Chris was not giving me any hints as to what attire I would need. We set out in the car and Chris was hoping I would fall asleep (as I usually do) so that I could not see where we were heading.
We drove the longest possible route to our destination in the hopes that Chris had confused me, but I eventually figured out we were heading to the beautiful Cradle Mountain.
We checked into a spa suite and headed to the main lodge for tea, when at tea Chris suggested we go on the dove lake walk on the saturday afternoon, I agreed thinking nothing of it as Chris does do spontainous things often.
The next day we woke up and looked at the brochures that the front desk gave us and decide to go on the short walk around the lodge, we were messing around taking photos of ourselves(as you can see in my photo, but little did I realise there was a ring box in Chris' jacket pocket that I was leaning on). Once we finished the short walk we headed for Dove lake.
As we prepped ourselves for the 7km walk Chris gets a massive backpack out of the car and heaves it onto his back, he tells me he packed a lunch for us. I offer to carry the backpack numerous times and Chris gets very defensive and insists he carries it. As we were getting close to the halfway mark Chris seemed to get anxious to find a table to stop and have lunch at, we passed one all covered in snow and after another 10 minutes Chris started to talk about turning back and heading to the first table we saw, but just around the bend was another seat.
We sat down and Chris started getting out the sandwiches he made, me being me picks up the first sandwich and starts shoving it down my throat when I turn around and see Chris on bended knee asking me to marry him? I burst into tears as I said yes and quickly grabbed Chris for a big kiss. Chris then got his mobile out of his pocket (which he had banned all weekend) and told me I could call my mum. That was the funniest conversation mum and I have ever had;
'Hi mum! Whats ya doing?'
"Not much just the ironing what about you?"
"Not much Chris has taken me away for the weekend"
"Oh yeah where abouts?"
"Cradle mountain"
"Oh thats nice!"
"Yeah I know....oh yeah and he proposed"
"He what?"
"He asked me to marry him"
"Oh my god congratulations thats wonderful.....are you alright?"
*as I'm sobbing away* "Yes I thought you would know, he asked dad for permission"
"no I didn't know.....I'm gunna kill your father for not telling me....well I'll call you when you get home enjoy your weekend"
After finishing the conversation with mum I turn around to find a bottle of French champagne, cheeses, biscuits, strawberries and fruit platters. Chris had thought of everything!
We drank half the bottle of champagne as people kept walking past thinking we were crazy...mind you it was not the best idea to try and finish the walk after half a bottle of champagne, once back in our room we settled into the spa to finish the champagne and fruit.
My perfect engagement weekend didn't finish there Chris had also organised a spa day with an hour long massage the next day before we had to head back to reality!
