Capturing the Moment...and the Perfect Photographer

Finding the right photographer for us has been almost as difficult as finding the perfect venue. I’m not a huge fan of having my photo taken and Neil gets annoyed if someone snaps away at him for too long, so documentary style photography was an easy choice.

I had a large stash of business cards and brochures from the Doltone House and Wedding Establishment expos, so the first step was to sift through them to make a shortlist. While I was making a mess of the floor, Neil hit Google and The Knot Suppliers section to see what he could find.

In the end we booked appointments with four photographers: Dreamlife Photography, Infinity Photography, Tealily Photography and Photos by Jay.

Meeting with each photographer was a really enjoyable experience. We got lots of shot ideas from the sample albums, and each photographer offered valuable advice for the day. All had shot weddings at Bradley’s Head (our wedding venue) before, so we got plenty of tips on the best places to stand and pose, and what to watch out for – like rogue waves on the jetty!

All four photographers offered various packages, but they were all happy to modify them to meet our needs. We weren’t too worried about parent albums, as we prefer to make these up ourselves. Ditto to a big framed blow-up from the day – not very us!

It really, truly was a difficult decision, but in the end we went with Jay at Photos by Jay. We just loved his style and we got exactly what we wanted in our package without going over budget.
