The Bride Feels The Pain

On her fitness, or fit-the-dress, mission bride Kate throws herself right into some serious exercise, only to feel the consequences when trying to laugh (or sneeze) the next day.

Coming back to work after the Christmas break, I was feeling quite relaxed and happy with all the wedding progress we’d made over the past few weeks. Then I logged into The Knot and saw (to my surprise) that there were only 78 days left to go until D-Day. It was a bit like a bomb going off – 78 days to get my arms, chest, butt and legs “dress-ready”. So much for my plan to do it gradually over the nine month’s we had to get ready!

Neil and I are pretty active already – I hit the pavements around home around three mornings a week for an hour, and we play tennis once a week. Add in two gym/gossip sessions with the girls from work and it looks good on paper, but I was weightless – and not in a good way.

Our office has just moved into East Sydney, so I headed over to our local sweatbox, City Gym. Day one I got a bit over-excited and did a lunchtime Crunch class (30 minutes of ab pain), then Pilates after work. Suffice to say Tuesday was not a good day for laughing, coughing or sneezing.

On Wednesday I met up with one of the gym trainers, Cody, to get a new program. Although I used to do weights 3-4 times a week, it’s been about a year since I’ve trained properly, so my program is fairly light to start with. Having said that, it still takes an HOUR to do just the weights then I do cardio on top of that. This is not a lunchtime workout!

I’m keeping track of my progress in the forums (join me here!). In the meantime Knotties, you can be amused by the image of me in gym full of beefy blokes lifting massive barbells, while I pump my soon-to-be biceps with 4kg hand-weights!
