Honeymoon Report

10 days into our honeymoon and we are soothing our first case of sunburn, having tested the theory that being on the ecuator does mean you are closer to the sun. First stop was Santiago where we purchased matching casio old-school waterproof watches for $10. Like daggy newlyweds we immediately set them in perfect time and decided we would check them again at the end of the trip to see if we are still in perfect synchrony. So far Eben is 4 seconds behind!

Having lugged our hiking boots halfway across the world, we chose to embark on our first 2km downhill hike in a pair of haviannas, proving the versatility of Australia's number one footwear choice. Next stop Quito. Our hotel also seemed to double as the airport control tower and an under-aged nightclub, however was a great base to explore the beautiful old heritage-listed city.

On to the Galapagos Islands which was the real start of our honeymoon. Four on a boat in a remote and unique part of the world was every bit as good as we had hoped. Our newly purchased waterproof camera was put to good use as we swam with sea lions, sea turtles and white tipped sharks! It was non-stop nature on land too with thousands of birds, iguanas and giant tortoises (Eben says tortii).

After returning briefly to Quito we decided we needed some R&R so took off to a spectacular spa town in the Andes called Banos. After 2 days of hot springs and massages and the incredible Luna Runtan, perched on the side of a mountain, we are ready for our next adventure. We are heading into the jungle!

We had a great Christmas in Banos, despite getting a little too much sun. Eben is lying next to me resembling the red breasted Frigate bird we saw in the Galapagos, trying to attract its mate. Perhaps Eben is trying to do the same, so until next time.. Feliz Navidad!
