Eben said he had a surprise for me for our wedding day. Leaping out of a helicopter was not going to happen. Hot air balloons through the gum trees? Nah. Butterflies being released from white crystal cages? Not his style. So when he executed his speech using a custom made medley of songs I knew this I what he had been scheming. Talk about an ice-breaker.
Basically Eb told the story of our love in words, and music, and cute little dance moves, which I ended up joining in on. He told the astonished audience that he had met me in a bar and asked to buy me my favourite drink. Then the song TEQUILA came on. I laughed so hard, then I did a silly little dance. This is hard to put into a blog and definitely falls under the category of "you have to have been there" but hopefully my words explain how special this was for me.
The musical montage was a brilliant idea because so much of our life is lived through music, we sing together live, we play music together at home for fun and there seems to be so many songs special to our relationship. After Eb's crazy speech he sang the Lionel Ritchie song "Stuck on you" but changed the lyrics to make the song special to us. He played guitar while he sang. The sight of this took me back to the moment he proposed, guitar in hand. It's not everyone's style, but it is so Eben, and I am so glad he's not backward in coming forward.
