What Does It All Mean? Let's Just Spring Clean!

With one week before their wedding Kate & Eben's spring clean keeps them from dwelling too much about what's ahead.

What Does It All Mean? Let's Just Spring Clean!

Eben was away all last week and I was home alone with the "wedding thing" which seems so much more intense in everyone else's mind. OK, this is the thing: I don't worry until people ask me if I'm stressed/overwhelmed/nervous/freaking. My natural response is "Should I be?" And with Eben away the doubts and the details start to lose proportion. The thing about Eben is that he makes everything light, good fun and natural. He takes the hugeness of a milestone event and makes it human, even humorous.

When he got back this weekend we cleaned the house in preparation for the sublet that's happening during our honeymoon. Our system for cleaning an entire house is that Eben tackles the outside (scooping up cobwebs, clearing guttering, mowing) and I fling open every cupboard we have and sort, clean and store.

Knowing what's inside your house and dealing with it is an excellent ritual before getting married; emotionally and domestically we got in there and had a good clear out. And possibly, when I was down on my knees having a good scrub, the last thing on my mind was wearing a silk gown and wedding Eben in front of a lot of very beloved people and that was a very good thing. The best way to manage a dream is to look after the reality first.
